Mesothelioma Rates Increasing in Vermont

Tailings--also known as slimes, tailings pile, tails, or leach residue--
are the remainder of separating ore. Nowadays, tailings are usually
repurposed in some way. It's very ecologically minded. However,
when the tailings are from an asbestos mine, and people around that
asbestos mine are dying from mesothelioma at a higher rate than
elsewhere, then exactly how those asbestos tailings were repurposed
becomes a critical question.

That's what is happening in Colchester Vermont, as the state is
looking at road and construction projects, trying to determine if
asbestos tailings from the local mine are responsible, or connected
in some way, with the mesothelioma rate.
