According to the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, exposure to a fibrous volcanic mineral called erionite has been associated with a high incidence of mesothelioma. Research done by Y. Izzettin Baris, M.D., of Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, followed 891 Turkish patients for 23 years.
